[DATABASE SCENES RECORD 40]
This complete scene of viticulture and winemaking is depicted in three registers. First register: from right to left, the paintings, almost lost here on top represent a harvest scene and a wine press. Four workmen are picking up the grapes, the two men in the middle are holding a small basket with one hand to put the grapes. The wine press is very simple, only the upper pole where the workers hold themselves while pressing the grapes is now visible. Second register: in the middle, a man is counting a group of jars; twelve jars in two registers are stored in front of him, and the four jars to the left and the two jars to the right are sealed, while the rest of jars are big and opened. To the right side, two men are filling two big jars with small jugs. Third register: four men are pressing grapes in a sack-press; the sack is twisted by means of a pole, which is fixed in one side (right), and the men are tightening it from the left part. Below the sack-press is a vat to receive the liquid. To the left: a unique and damaged scene shows four men filtering a liquid from a bowl through some kind of cloth and a vase (rounded jar) with two small handles below to receive the filtered liquid. On the left side, a man is cooking a liquid in a big jar, using a stick. This scene is supposed to represent the preparation of the shedeh: filtering and heating the juice after the pressing of the grapes, which is described in the papyrus Salt 825 (BM 10051) of the Late Period. On the extreme right side, there is a scene of hunting birds, which are maybe browsing from a vine. Five small birds bite the grapes and a man on the left has a trap for birds, moreover, another two big birds come from left side (to eat the small birds?).
